Bewr Road Bridge - Refurbishment Works

Amco Engineering, working in conjunction with Amco Rail, have designed an innovative solution for the installation of replacement steel beams which form part of the refurbishment works for the Berw Road Bridge in Pontypridd Mid Glamorgan.

The solution involved the design and manufacture of a lifting frame to safely and efficiently lift the steel cross beams, each weighing 3.9 tons, into position.

The beams were transported to the bridge by Road Rail Vehicle and Trailer, transferred to the lifting frame and then raised into position using conventional hand chain blocks. The use of hand chain blocks not only ensured the lifting operations were carried out safely, under the complete control of the operators, but also allowed for the precise manoeuvring and positioning of the beams under difficult conditions.
