Leyburn Overbridge
Amco Rail has undertaken the reconstruction of the Leyburn Overbridge, in North Yorkshire, which carries the A684 Northallerton to Sedburgh Road over the Northallerton to Redmire section of the Wensleydale railway
Client:Network Rail
Value:£1M
Location:North Yorkshire
The works, which were carried out during a nine day rail and road closure, consisted of the demolition of the existing single span half through structure and full re-construction on the existing sub-structure.
New pre-cast cill beams were installed and pre-stressed box beams stitched together to re-construct the superstructure. A 500 tonne mobile crane was utilised to lift in the new pre-cast concrete components. New H4a high containment parapets were also installed as part of the project. An innovative design solution was used to cap the insitu stitches with pre-waterproofed pre-cast capping planks.
The whole deck was also completed and waterproofed without having to re-visit after the concrete had cured to waterproof the stitches. The BT apparatus was also prohibitively expensive to divert onto a temporary service bridge so the cables were suspended in-situ with the structure being demolished and re-constructed around the cables.
