Amco have completed the design and construction of the lock structures and associated mechanical and electrical works for the Ouseburn Barrage. The project is at the intersection of the River Tyne and its tributary the Ouseburn within the heart of Newcastle. The overall £3.5m scheme will impound the Ouseburn from the tidal Tyne generating an open waterfront development as part of the regeneration of Newcastle Quayside.
Our £0.8m contract provided a fully operational guillotine lock gate system including the fabrication of two steel gates and 13.5m high architecturally ornate tubular arches from which to winch the gates. All drive systems are controlled by plc software with remote operation available from Newcastle Civic Centre provided via wireless techology.
The successful delivery of this contract fully represents Amco's multi-disciplined capability utilising our specialist M&E expertise to successfully deliver a fully operational installation from detailed design through to commissioning.
