London Cable cooling

St Johns Wood to West Ham Cable Cooling Refurbishment

The construction phase has commenced on Amco Energy's contract to refurbish the existing cable cooling system on two 400kV buried circuits running between the National Grid HV Substations at St John's Wood and West Ham in North London.

Client:Electricity Alliance East
Value:
Location:London

The contract works, awarded by the Electricity Alliance East, involve the D&C of equipment replacement and some building refurbishment at eight pumping stations, two header tank buildings, three valve houses, seven outlets and a cable tunnel.

The unique nature of the scheme with difficult access, environmental considerations and interface requirements with the existing control and monitoring systems remains an ongoing challenge to the team

The design process is now largely complete, allowing AMCO to finalise and procure all major material elements, including the Siemens SCADA system and MCC Panels. Construction works are now progressing on four of the pump stations concurrently.
