Cottam Gypsum Bypass

Cottam Gypsum Bypass and Storage

Client:EDF Energy
Value:£2.3m
Location:Cottam Power Station

AMCO Energy completed the Gypsum Bypass and Storage project at Cottam Power Station for EDF Energy to provide a bypass facility for the main 12,000 tonne capacity gypsum silo during times of maintenance.

The project involved modifying the feed onto the existing gypsum silo feed conveyor to provide a bypass on to the new Store Feed conveyor system. These conveyors are rated at 115 tonnes per hour and the store can hold 6,000 tonnes of gypsum.

Reclaim from the store is by front end loader into a feed hopper above a chain conveyor which in turn feeds a belt and bucket elevator and backs onto the existing rail out loading conveyor. The reclaim rate is 275 tonnes per hour and the system will load a 1200 tonne capacity train in under 5 hours.

The scheme was designed and engineered by AMCO Energy and complements the other conveyor installations on the Cottam site which were designed and constructed by AMCO for the earlier FGD project.
