Tilbury Power Station Jetty Improvements
Client:RWEnpower
Value:£3,400,000
Location:Tilbury
Amco has undertaken a design and build contract on behalf of RWEnpower at Tilbury Power Station.
Tilbury Power Station burns around 2.5 million tonnes of coal a year which is delivered by sea and offloaded via a private jetty on the River Thames. Prior to the contract the size of ship which could be accommodated at the jetty was limited to 20,000 tonnes. However the improvements made now mean that bulk carriers of up to 65,000 tonnes can be accommodated.
Working in partnership with Volker Stevin who undertook the civil engineering elements of the project, Amco were responsible for the design, supply and installation of a 201 metre long 3,000 tonnes per hour capacity belt conveyor and associated chute; the repositioning of two continuous ship unloaders (each weighing 900 tonnes); the provision of new oil unloading facilities and the provision of electrics and a new scada system for interfacing the whole plant.
